I want to write a heavy kind of song… I have written songs before (mostly love songs) I just don’t know where the inspiration for metal writing comes from… if you could maybe give me opinions on that, I would appreciate it.
alright dude
ive written so many freakin metal songs i dont know where to begin
ive also written quite a few other genres (love etc…)
metal has a wide variety of types of lyrics
bands such as poison the well use post-modern style writing
their lyrics are poems
heavy metal isnt just about brutality and anger
it can be about anything
when i write i focus on one emotion and let everything associated with that emotion flow out onto the paper
another tip
take a shower
hot water beating on your skin really helps
i have heard some christian death metal
its lyrics are very christian oriented
but you cant tell at all
it sounds like it could be talking about anything else
write about heartbreak?
write about pain
write about anger
write about sorrow
it all works
ive written on them all
i also love writing post modern
it doesnt have to make sense
it just has to be
an english prof of mine once told me to come up with one word and associate things with it
then use those things to write your song
its not just a song its a poem!!!!!
heres a little chorus i wrote a while back
it is mine dont steal it
kiss me in the moonlight
break my heart under the stars
leave me to burn in the sun
then wash away with cloudy tears
then a little post modern
-completely lying to myself on this one
whitewashing a white fence while trying to make the green grass greener
we all end up with whitewashed grass and a green fence
under years of silence our voices can now cry
a snowy old man with a rasping wheeze will only be able to sing the childs song he heard when he was young
but when lying in his casket only to breath a last exhale of soul to those presenting his sunset
so breathing can be saved for these who know what to do with their
breath
jsut thought i would share those
good luck

Er, it depends what kind of metal sub genre you're talking about. As death, power metal etc… lyrics focus on entirely different themes.
To be honest, sometimes when I read lyrics to a metal song, I feel it could fit under any other kind of rock genre. There aren't any 'defining' or special qualities that metal lyrics have, to link the lyrics, to the metal genre. Except for the mood. ie. Pop rock lyrics have upbeat, fun lyrics. Metal is [dark, insert cliche word here]. But I find that a bit of an over generalization.
Some metal lyrics are centered around the guitar riff & most bands of the metal genre touch on violence, politics, death, religion or rebellion but so do punk bands.
Er, just try & make it sound aggressive.
