Songwriting Tips And Help For Writing Songs And Lyrics
i need help with songwriting and melodies?

I play gutiar and drums and i need some help coming up with melodies and lyrics….any tips?

I play guitar and drums too (and piano and a bunch of random stuff like didgeridoo). I find that starting out small by creating some simple riffs on the guitar and then linking them is best.

Are you clued up on your chord theory? If so, try picking a key for the song, and work out a basic melody using the notes of the chords in that key. You'll find after a couple of goes it isn't that hard to get something workable. Then develop it by adding in more riffs, and work out a structure for your piece. Think about the style of song you want to write, and what you want it to be about. I generally go for the music first and then the lyrics, although I usually have an idea of what I want the whole thing to be about. What are you trying to say in your song? Is it angry, sad, upbeat, laid back?

If you need any more help, drop me an email at markus@wombatjelly.com
